About Us

NEWRMC is a national/state entity with a public interest and mandate to initiate, coordinate, and track response activities within the framework of the implementation of the National Early Warning and Response Mechanism.

Who we are

About NEWRMC

NEWRMC/NCCRM-SL was launched on 13th September, 2021 jointly by the Hon. Vice President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Dr Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, and the erstwhile President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Jean Claude Kassi-Brou.

Through its expertise and effective inter-agency collaboration, the Centre strives to develop its mandate of providing early warning on threats/issues bordering on peace and human security, as well as coordinating and tracking response efforts in addressing the threats identified in a timely manner. With the early warning and early response mechanism in Sierra Leone, the Centre works towards ensuring that in addressing issues of human security and peace, it becomes easier, more effective and less expensive for Government and its partners (saving lives and cost).

In achieving this, the Centre uses the 56 ECOWAS indicators on the five (5) thematic areas (Security; Crime and Criminality; Good Governance and Human Rights; Environment; and Health). These indicators play useful role in identifying and highlighting existential  and emerging trends of threats to human security and peace in Sierra Leone.
